On September 1, 2025, the Juba Campus of our university witnessed a very colorful celebration: the Installation Ceremony of the 3rd Vice Chancellor (VC).
After a solemn Eucharist, presided over by Cardinal Stephen Ameyu Martin Mulla, President of the Sudan and South Sudan Catholic Bishops’ Conference and Chancellor of this University, an academic procession ushered in the Installation of the new VC, Br. Dr. Bruno Amori Dada.
After messages of appreciation directed to the outgoing VC, Fr. Dr. Mathew Pagan, who over the past 12 years has worked hard to develop our university and its “satellite” campuses, the chancellor bestowed the new VC with the symbols of authority and identity of the Catholic University of South Sudan.
After his installation, Br. Dr. Bruno Dada addressed the dignitaries, the staff, and the students with these words:
“With a great sense of humility and honor, today I welcome all of you to this university.
I would like to express my deepest appreciation to the Catholic Bishops of Sudan and South Sudan for the confidence and trust they have vested in me as the new Vice Chancellor.
My appreciation to all stakeholders of this institution, the students, the staff, and the entire university community.
It is my prayer and hope that the Almighty God continues to grant me wisdom, good health, and knowledge to diligently serve this great institution.
I would like to pay tribute to the outgoing Vice Chancellor, Fr. Dr. Mathew Pagan, for his contributions to this institution: he will be remembered for many achievements, but mostly for having spearheaded the expansion of this university to other dioceses and for the acquisition of more land.
All my efforts will be geared toward enhancing, propelling, and strengthening academic excellence in this university, according to its vision, mission, and core values, to enable it to remain:
- A university that maintains a Catholic identity;
- A university that promotes innovative teaching and learning;
- A university that is research-driven;
- A university with a conducive learning and living environment;
- A university with adequate and motivated staff.
I am aware of the current challenges we are going through, amongst others:
- High staff turn-over;
- Rising cost in tuition fees;
- Inadequate infrastructure to accommodate the growing number of students and staff
- Accessibility to the physically challenged, which still remains a critical issue.
Together we shall focus on creating inclusive environments and support systems that cater to diverse student needs.”
He further pledged to work with the many different stakeholders of our university and appealed to the private sector, the government, and all people of good will to join hands and further develop this young yet vibrant institution.
This historical occasion was graced by the Papal Nuncio in South Sudan, Séamus Patrick Horgan, the US Ambassador, Michael J. Adler, the Acting Head of the European Union Delegation, Lothar Jaschke, the Representative of the German Embassy; the Deputy Head of Mission at the German Embassy, Björn Niere, and the Governor of Western Equatoria, James Al-Taib.
